SARDINIA HORNED GODDESS - CARD A5

CARD Size: A5

The bull/cow was a predominant symbol of significant value for both the Pre-Nuragic

culture and the Nuragic civilisation. A bull’s head is often carved into the stone (a

protome) in Domus de Janas ( Fairy Houses ) and Tombe dei Giganti ( Giant’s Graves

). It persisted as a symbol until it became the totem animal of the Nuragic people’s ships.

The Lithuanian scholar and archaeologist Marija Gimbutas completed a notewor-

thy study about this symbol and the Meditteranean Goddess. In her book, “The

Language of the Goddess”, she demonstrates that the anatomy of the uterus corre-

sponds precisely to the shape of the decorative carvings (bucranium). She connects

the meaning of this symbol to birth and, consequently, the Goddess.

SARDINIA MOTHER GODDESS

CARD Size : A5
